much resembled him, had been with him within a short time;
that, overcome by his importunity and pressing influence, he had
shewn him the way, by giving him a guide, and had told him how
to behave himself to succeed; but withal, that he had never seen
him since, and never disputed but he had the same fate as many
more had undergone.
Good dervise, answered Prince Perviz, I know whom you speak
of; he was my brother; and I am informed of the certainty of his
death, but know not what it was. I can tell, replied the dervise: he
was changed into a black stone, as all I speak of have been; and
you ought to expect the same, unless you observe, more exactly
than he has done, the good advice I gave him, in case you persist
in your resolution, which I once more entreat you to desist from.
Dervise, said Prince Perviz, I cannot enough express how much I
am obliged to you for the care you take of my life, since I am a
stranger to you, and have done nothing to deserve so much good
will; but I must tell you, I have deliberated too long upon this
enterprize to quit it now; therefore beg of you to do me the same
favour you have done my brother. Perhaps I may have better
success, and may follow the directions I expect from you. Since
I cannot prevail upon you, said the dervise, nor persuade you not
to undertake what you have so obstinately resolved on, if my age
