There is people whose spirit is stilted,
Under a never cheered forehead,
They do not suffer, neither approve nor value
Anything but pompous and sublime;
For me, I would actually point out
That sometimes the highest spirit
May love even Puppets without blushing up;
And that there are times and places
Where the grave and serious
Are not worth more than a nice nonsense.
Why should we fill with wonder
If the most sensible Reason,
Often tired by an excessive vigil,
Take pleasure to slumber
Ingeniously cradled
By stories of ogres and fairies?
Without being afraid of someone who might
Condemn me for wasting my leisure,
I am going, to satisfy your right desire,
To tell you all the story of Donkey Skin.
