           should have contented herself with brown bread
           and onions, because they did not bring anything
           else. Then the Mammone Cat said, "Let's go, girl.
           We are going to give you too a garment and all
           the other baubles. Climb up the stairway, but be
           careful, because it is made of crystal." The ugly
           sister gave it no thought and mounted clumsily up
           the steps with her wooden shoes; and so she
           smashed up the stairway from top to bottom.
           When she got to the drawing room, the fairies
           asked her, "Would you like a brocade cloth with
           golden pendants, or a fustian cloth with brass
           pendants?” She insolently asked for the best things,
           but she really ought to have taken the worse,
           because they did not give her anything else.
