In the meantime Caterina, since she had been to
see the fairies, grew more beautiful by the day,
and the son of the King fell in love with her so
strongly that he forced his father to give him his
consent to marry her. The wedding date was
fixed, and the mother together with the ugly
sister did not dare to oppose the royal will.
However, they plotted to cheat the prince, and
hoped to be successful. Oh! Listen to what these
two-wicked rascals did. On the wedding day, they
let Caterina down into a vat in the cellar, and shut
it up; then the ugly sister dressed herself like the
bride with her sister’s clothes and jewels. ___
