fear, because she had heard that the fairies
           mistreated people, and whoever went to their
           manor came back in bad shape. She begged her
           mother not to send her and she wept and wept,
           but to no avail, because the old woman and the
           ugly sister mistreated her further and even
           threatened to beat her. Then Caterina, thinking
           that the fairies could not do anything worse to
           her, resigned herself to obey. With tears in her
           eyes and more than reluctantly, the girl headed
           towards the forest where the fairies had their
           manor.
