endeavour to complete their work. Then you will
go into the kitchen, where other cats are doing
their house work: help them as you did with the
others. Then you will hear them calling
Mammone Cat, and all the cats will tell him what
you did for them. Mammone will ask you, 'What
do you like for breakfast, brown bread and onions
or white bread and cheese?’ and you should
answer at once: 'brown bread and onions.' Then
they will give you white bread and cheese. After
this, Mammone will invite you to climb up a
wonderful stairway made entirely of crystal; be
careful not to break it, or even to crack it a little.
When you are upstairs pay attention to choose
always the worst one among the things that the
fairies will give you.
