he informed him of the truth. "O friend," said
he, "I am he whom you seek ; but behold ! I am
as poor as yourself. Alas ! I cannot help you. I
cannot even give you another meal. But if you
will accept my only daughter, you are welcome.
You may be able to sell her, and thus get some
money to marry your own daughters. Go, and
God be with you."
"O king," replied the woodcutter, "your
generosity melts my heart. I cannot thank you
sufficiently for your kindness to me. May God
reward you. Farewell !"
The woodcutter and the princess then left. On
the way they had to pass through a very wild
place, where they met a prince, who was hunting.
