The servant took pity of her and went to the
queen and said, «There’s a poor unfortunate
maiden here. Let us give her a little hut.»
So they put her in the hen-house and brought her
a bit of bread, seeing how famished she was. Well,
the queen took a liking to this girl, and every
morning she had coffee sent to her. But when she
asked her, «Whose daughter are you?» her only
answer was, «Ah, if only you knew what I’ve gone
through!» and she wouldn’t say another word.
It came to pass, after she had been in that hut for
some time, that one morning she gave birth to a
