nce upon a time, there was a woman
who had two daughters. One of them,
named Caterina, was unbelievably beauty-
ful, while the other was so ugly that is
hard to imagine how ugly she was. Well, the
mother favoured the ugly daughter, and they
were consumed with envy against Caterina,
because not only was she beautiful, but she even
showed herself to be deeply good. So her mother
and her sister played tricks on her and did all they
could to bring down some ailment on Caterina so
as to make her ugly. The poor girl patiently bore
