Apple, but the bird was silent. After the king
had heard all the music, the bird said, «What
does your majesty think of it?»
The king was astonished at hearing the Talking
Bird and said: «What should I think? It’s
marvelous.»
«There is something more marvelous,» the
bird said. «Just wait!»
Then the bird turned away from the king and
cried out: «Mistress, call your brothers.»
When they were all together, the bird spoke,
«The king has returned. Let’s invite him to
dinner on Sunday. Is this all right with you?»
«Yes, yes,» they all said.
So the bird turned back to the king and
invited him, and he accepted,
On Sunday the bird had a grand dinner
prepared. When the king came and saw the
young people, he clapped his hands and said,
«I don’t understand all this, but they seem to
be my children.»
He went through the palace and was
astonished at its richness. Then they went to
dinner, and while they were eating, the king
said, «Bird, everyone is talking, but you alone
