again besought Serena to give him his liberty,
promising that if she would grant his prayer he
would come to her aid, whenever she might
call upon him; but Serena was not to be thus
cajoled, and declared that before she would let
him go free he must help them to find their
father and mother, and that until he had
accomplished this task he must be her
prisoner.
There had already arisen some dispute
amongst the three as to who should have the
bird in keeping, but in the end they settled
that it should be left in charge of Serena, who
tended it with great care and watched over it.
The affair having come to this happy issue,
they mounted their horses and rode home.
