last favour, whereupon they asked her what
might be this boon which she desired. She
answered that she wanted the Green Beaubird.
Fluvio, who had plucked the apple guarded by
the venomous beast, was still haunted by the
peril of his adventure, and refused to go in
quest of the bird. Acquirino, though for a long
time he too turned a deaf ear, was finally
moved by the brotherly love he felt and by the
hot tears of grief which Serena shed, and
